Wainwright was a character in Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments. She appeared on an online comedy sketch on YouTube's channel Smosh in 2012, guest-starred in a variety of TV and film projects like Criminal Minds & Lethal Weapon. The casting of her as the werewolf Maia Roberts in Freeform's fantasy show Shadowhunters, which is an adaptation of Cassandra's Mortal Instruments books series, was revealed on September 16 in 2016.
